New IBM UltraNav Keyboard

July 29, 2006 on 9:43 pm | In Computer | No Comments
IBM UltraNav

Since I started using HP laptop, which has a imitative trackpoint, but a blue one, I love the way to control the cursor, especially when I needed to change between a lot of windows. I had been looking for this kind of keyboard on Yahoo!Bid, and found some of IBM's products. But they exceeded my budget.

Today I bought one. Although I like Space Saver II more, I still could not wait and bought the UltraNav, which has a TouchPad, and I thought it's not useful and because of that, I couldn't put it into my keyboard drawer. But it's my second choice. Without the part of numbers, it is similar to a laptop’s keyboard, but the only disadvantage is the ESC’s place. It is not like a normal keyboard, which usually puts the ESC at the left side of F1. Its ESC is juct above the F1. For several times, when I tried to cancel some wrong typing, I always triggered the help window.

Well… I still have to get used of it. Besides that, it is really a good thing.

Continue reading “放射科見習” …

My Leg's X-ray

July 28, 2006 on 7:41 pm | In Medical Education | No Comments
2001.11.09 Leg-LAT 2001.11.09 Leg-PA

I finally got my leg's x-ray taken 4 years ago. At that time, my leg hurt after a soccer game, and I went to the Ortho OPD of VGHTPE and took these films. The left one is lateral view, while the other is PA view.

I couldn't find my medical file number even though I had the right to login the system of VGHTPE. But this week, when the technician introduced PACS to us, I got a chance and found it.

Yesterday, when I was finding a case for my case report homework, I searched with my medical file number and found these two films. It was a strange feeling when I saw them. I wasn't the guy of 4 years ago. I knew much more medical knowledge than that time. The x-ray films were not so unfamiliar for me. And at that time, I was reading my films. Strange, isn't it?

Punishment For Food Thief

Sennoside

How hateful the thief was!

Since the summer vacation, I've heard several people’s food was stolen. My pears were. This didn't happen since I moved here. Today, I reviewed the conote of physiology. It says there is a kind of conditioning called food aversion conditioning, which is strong and the effect can last for a long time. It gave me the idea to punish the thief.

Milk

I bought a bottle of milk and some laxatives (Sennoside, センノサイド). Before I put the milk into the refrigerator, I drank two third of it to elevate the concentration of drug. (The other reason is I don't want to waste it. :p) But the pills seemed not to dissolve very well. Hope the thief wouldn't find the residues. ^^a

Ok, let's wait and see what will happen…

病理部的課程很輕鬆,早上沒有很早的 meeting,下午通常也只要兩點到就可以,所以整個禮拜過著一種輕鬆悠閒的感覺,早上到員工餐廳吃早餐時,總是遇不到什麼同學。 Continue reading “病理見習” …

White Coat, Out of Hospital

四下PBL組員們

Someone complained about seeing a clerk or intern wearing his white coat goint to the market. I know the man he mentioned is not me, but I usually wore my white coat even if I left the hospital.

The reason I did this is my laziness. I didn't want to take a coat in my hand. I also didn't want to put it in my bag, because it would get wrinkled. But that guy said the white coat may be dirty, a lot of pathogens on it, and it may risk other people. I didn't think of that before.

It seems a big problem, and maybe some people got affected. Hmm… I have to change my behavior from now on.

My First Venipuncture

抽血器具

This week I was in Department of Pathology. We had to do venipuncture and blood sampling on real patients. This is my first time to do this.

I was a little nervous when I stood behind the technician watching, but I felt relaxed after a successful puncture. "It's not as hard as I thought." I murmured. But luckiness was not always with me. I failed on the 4th patient. Thanks to the technician. She took over the needle and didn't make the patient angry about my fault. I didn't feel much depressed. I knew before I become skilled, I must experience a lot of failure.

On Tuesday, I totally punctured about 15 to 20 patients. Tomorrow I will have another chance. Hope I could do better. This is a good news for both the patient and I. :p

Start Using Portable Apps

After beginning my clerk course, I have been in the hospital for long time a day. I couldn't take my notebook because of its weight and the posibility of being stolen. Some of my classmates bought USB flash drives. I remembered Portable Firefox and thought maybe it is a good solution for me.

For several days trying, it's convenient. I had many good extensions installed and made the library’s computer just like what I am accustomed to. But there is a new problem. I found the startup is very slow. I always had to wait more than 2 minutes before I started using it. I don't know why. There is no discussion on the forum. I thought it may because the low speed of the SD card or the USB drive. The speed test (by HD Tune) shows the average is 3.5 MB/s. But strangely, Portable OOo and Portable Gaim work well.

Before I find the solution, I can copy the whole directory of PFF to the hard disc before using, but it's a little inconvenient. >_<

Artist is one of my favorite songs of backQuarter. Tonight, while listening to it, I tried to find out the chords…

Unbelievable! 1000m Front Crawl

It's very unbelievable. Two weeks ago, I couldn't swim using front crawl more than 50m, but today I extended the distance to 1000m. I did it!

When I had learned swimming in my childhood, I didn't like front crawl because it made me exhausted and out of breath. I easily got tired even I tried to relax more under the water. But last week, I suddenly found I was not so tired as before. I broke through 100m easily, and on the second round, I tried 400m and succeed. Today, after a 300m breaststroke warm-up, I tried 1000m. Yeah, it's not as difficult as I thought before.

Although my speed was very slow, a girl beside went 1.5 fold faster, I didn't care very much. I have progressed. I believe I can swim as fast as her if I keep practicing. Maybe someday I can cross Sun Moon Lake with front crawl.

But I got a new problem. The water always goes into my nostrils and makes me allergic. Hmm… I must find some methods to prevent this.
